Building Custom Majlis Seating for a Sunroom

Off-the-shelf sectionals rarely fit a sunroom well. For this project we built custom majlis-style bench seating that wraps around the room and follows its angled walls.

Building the Frames

We built the seating as separate modular frames, so each piece can be moved and carried through doorways. The angled corner sections follow the shape of the room.

Slats and Finishing

Solid wood slats form the seat deck that holds up the cushions.

We stained the trim pieces and frames outdoors on a tarp in a rich reddish tone.

Cushions and the Final Look

Once the frames were back in the sunroom, custom patterned cushions and bolsters finished the look. The U-shape is great for conversation and for having guests over.
